Valtronics Solutions Builds Process Training Unit for West Virginia University Parkersburg Campus

Process Training Unit will provide hands-on training for chemical process control students studying petroleum engineering, chemical engineering, and industrial engineering.

Ravenswood, WV – March 27, 2017 – Valtronics Solutions, a diverse manufacturing and services company within the natural gas, liquefied natural gas, natural gas liquids, petroleum and chemical industries, announces it has completed the Phase 1 fabrication of a Process Training Unit for West Virginia University Parkersburg campus (WVU-P), designed by Mid-Ohio Valley engineering firm, Pickering and Associates.

Chemical process control students will gain valuable experience with real-time measurement and control equipment to measure pressure, flow, level, and temperature utilizing programmable logic controller (PLC) hardware and software. The process unit was designed to enhance the educational experience and reflect real-world applications encountered after graduation.

“When employees are not trained properly or adequately, industrial accidents are more likely to occur.”, commented Kenneth Thompson, President of Valtronics and Mustang Sampling. “We are proud to be providing this hands-on real-world experience to students and the opportunity to be taught how to operate a process unit properly which in-turn leads to a safe work environment. The students will have the chance to learn how to employ correct safety procedures when operating the equipment.”

“This opportunity has come at the perfect time for Valtronics to help students prepare for post-graduate employment,” commented Kevin Warner, Ph.D., Chief Technology Officer of Mustang Sampling. “The Appalachian and Great Lakes Regions are the stage on which the energy transformation of this country is occurring.  The engineers and industries located nearby will play a vital role in reaching and exceeding energy independence as more resources are discovered nearer to our largest population centers than ever before.  We are proud to contribute to what we believe is the future of our region and nation.”

This process training unit has been equipped with items from over 15 respected manufacturing industry partners. These complementary product lines enable a comprehensive process training unit design representative of a measurement or control “skid,” commonly found within the energy industry.   The skid includes pneumatic pressure & temperature control, a Coriolis mass flow meter, smart level & pressure transmitters, liquid process control valves, and dozens of other commonly found components and systems.
